• to help coaches to develop /acquire the best level of competence, and assure that they have the appropriate technical standards

• to regulate the coaching practice and assure the continuous professional development is in place and the coaches are brought up to speed with the latest developments and trends in the sport.

IMMAF Coaching Certification Program will respect the national educational standards and will embrace all the policies and requirements in the field of physical education and sports, which are compulsory for the coaching practice in the particular country (First Aid, Child protection, Equality in sport, criminal records check). However, to obtain these additional qualifications will remain the responsibility of the coach and national federation.

Program overview

IMMAF Coach Education and Certification program (CECP) is the three-tiered progression of the coaching competence. Coach Level 1, 2 and 3 will correspond to the specific part of the participation pyramid – beginners, advanced and elite performance athletes, and a set of broad skills is required to do this job effectively.

In order to work successfully at the high level, the coaches need to develop strong knowledge of the training theory, methodology, psychology and other aspects of the modern scientific support to coaching. On the other hand, working with the beginners and young participants requires sound knowledge of many aspects such as growth and maturation, age and gender related peculiarities of the human physiology and understanding the Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) concept.

Therefore, continuous professional development of a coach is strongly recommended, and IMMAF will be here to assist. We hope you will enjoy the course and find it useful for your everyday work.

THE IMMAF COACH LEVEL 1 course is organised in two parts:

On-line theory and practical, the theory consists of 8 modules to be studied at your pace.

The theory is a pre-requisite for the practical block.

Each module has a visual, audio and written content. You are free to start with any on these as you feel comfortable. We believe that this is a good starting point to recognise individual preferences within any and every learning environment, something you as a coach will definitely come across.

Each module is concluded with an assignment, or a test, with the pass mark 80%.

Some modules have a section "group discussion". You are welcome to visit it, leave your comments and share your experience.  You may also see some materials and references marked as Extra, Optional, or Suggested reading. This material is not compulsory; however, it may broaden your horizons, especially if you are planning to continue building your professional competency up to the next Level 2 and 3.

At the end of the theory part you will take the final theory test and after successful completion you will be able to download the Course Handbook, which could be your reference point in the everyday teaching.

PRACTICAL PART (one full day, 7 hrs)

You will be expected to demonstrate

  • the certain technical level of the official syllabus ( up to Green Level
  • apply teaching techniques and other skills and knowledge during the final assessment
  • demonstrate your presentation skills (demonstration and instruction)
  • demonstrate your ability to manage the class, conduct training session, or its various parts.

Your Level 1 coaching qualification shall be a combination of successful theory test and assessment of your practical skills.
